Original Xbox Console for Sale: Compare Prices

An original Xbox price is only useful when you know what the offer includes. Across the matching listings, asking prices run $80.00–$1,499.99, with a median of $214.40. These are advertised listing prices, not completed-sale values or an appraisal of your own console. Compare delivery charges and any applicable taxes before deciding which offer costs less overall.

Start by separating console-only offers from playable packages. A console-only listing may omit the power lead, video cable and controller, even when its photographs show the system running. A practical starter setup needs all three, plus a compatible television connection and a game. Check the written contents list rather than assuming everything pictured is included.

Keep used and refurbished listings distinct. A used original Xbox may have been tested without receiving repairs; a refurbished description may mention cleaning, servicing or replacement components. Neither label establishes exactly what work was done. Read the service details, return terms and any stated warranty before paying extra. Game bundles can be worthwhile, but check the actual titles, disc condition and whether you want those games.

For an original Xbox for sale, look for evidence that it boots, opens its disc tray and loads a game from disc. A power-on photograph alone does not demonstrate a working optical drive. Ask whether the controller ports, video output and hard drive were checked, and inspect photographs for case cracks, corrosion, missing feet or damaged sockets. Treat vague instructions to read the description as a reason to investigate, not proof of a fault.

Clock-capacitor leakage is a known concern on many original Xbox revisions. Ask whether the board was inspected and whether any leakage or corrosion was addressed. Revision matters: clock-capacitor handling differs on version 1.6 systems, so a blanket claim that every console should have its capacitor removed is not sound advice. Cleaning the exterior is not equivalent to inspecting or repairing the motherboard.

The original Xbox has no built-in HDMI output. Confirm that the included AV cable works with your television, or budget for a suitable Xbox-compatible HDMI solution. Check the console's power requirements against your local supply, especially for imported editions. An inexpensive plug adapter does not convert voltage. For controllers, confirm that any required breakaway cable is included.

The Xbox Crystal edition has a translucent case, while the Halo Special Edition is a distinct collector model. Neither edition should be confused with a standard console bundled with Halo or a console supplied with a translucent controller. Check photographs of the console itself, identifying labels and the seller's explanation of originality. Replacement shells and mismatched controllers affect collector appeal even when the system plays normally.

For everyday play, servicing and completeness usually matter more than the case edition. The original Xbox offers four controller ports, built-in Ethernet and an internal hard drive for saves. Its library includes Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Fable, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Forza Motorsport. Check regional compatibility before buying imported games.

Modified systems need extra scrutiny. Ask what was changed, whether original discs still launch and whether a replacement hard drive is documented. Do not assume included downloaded games are licensed. Official original Xbox Live service is no longer available; offline play, supported local multiplayer and supported system-link games remain useful reasons to own the hardware.
