Xbox Kinect Sensors: Compare Prices

Start with your console, not the lowest asking price. Xbox 360 Kinect and the Xbox One Kinect sensor are different generations, and neither substitutes for the other. A sensor advertised simply as “Xbox Kinect” needs a closer look at its photos, model information and connector. A listing that names several consoles may describe an accessory rather than a complete sensor.

Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 E consoles have a dedicated Kinect connection. The original Xbox 360 needs the appropriate Kinect power and USB adapter. Sensor-only offers can still suit an existing setup, but buyers starting from scratch should confirm whether the necessary power connection is included. A normal Xbox 360 console power brick is not a Kinect power adapter.

The original Xbox One accepts its Kinect sensor directly. Xbox One S and Xbox One X require a separate compatible Kinect Adapter, including its power and USB connections. Neither Xbox Series X nor Xbox Series S supports Kinect. Be especially careful with “S/X” in adapter titles: Xbox One S and One X are not the same consoles as Xbox Series S and Series X.

Compare like-for-like offers within each generation. A sensor with its required power adapter may cost less overall than a cheaper sensor-only listing plus separately purchased cables. Conversely, there is little reason to pay extra for an adapter your console does not need. Check the item description and photos rather than assuming every pictured cable, game or original box is included.

Microsoft has discontinued Kinect hardware and its official adapter. Listings described as new therefore deserve careful inspection: confirm the stated condition, packaging and whether the hardware is Microsoft-branded or a third-party accessory. Used and refurbished are separate conditions. A refurbished label alone does not explain what was inspected, repaired or replaced, so read the seller’s description and any stated coverage or return terms.

For a used sensor, look for evidence that it connects, tracks movement and records microphone input, not merely that it powers on. Inspect photos for lens damage, frayed cables, bent connectors and cracks around the housing. The Xbox 360 sensor also has a motorized tilt mechanism. Ask about missing components when the listing is unclear.

Displayed prices are asking prices, not evidence of completed sales. Compare delivery charges, applicable taxes and any missing adapter before deciding which offer has the lowest total setup cost. This page filters common accessory-only titles, but retailer descriptions still need checking.

Match games to the sensor and console generation. Xbox 360 Kinect games such as Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports require the Xbox 360 setup; they do not become Xbox One Kinect games through backward compatibility. Xbox One titles such as Kinect Sports Rivals and Fighter Within need the Xbox One sensor. For bundles, confirm whether games are physical discs or codes and whether any included code has already been redeemed.

Leave clear space between the sensor and players, with room to move sideways and extend your arms. Required distance varies by sensor generation, game and player count; Xbox 360 Kinect generally needs more space than Xbox One Kinect. Check the relevant setup instructions before buying for a small room, and avoid obstacles or direct sunlight aimed at the sensor.

For Kinect for Windows projects, check the exact sensor, adapter, SDK and computer requirements before ordering. Xbox One Kinect computer setups require compatible USB 3.0 connectivity and separate power. A Windows-compatible adapter does not make the sensor compatible with a different Xbox generation or guarantee support in modern applications.
