Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver: Compare Prices

An Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver connects compatible Xbox 360 wireless controllers to a Windows PC through USB. It is not a Bluetooth adapter: Xbox 360 controllers use a different wireless connection. A listing should explicitly identify Xbox 360 controller support, rather than simply advertising a wireless gamepad receiver or an Xbox PC controller adapter.

The Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows is commonly identified as Model 1086. Third-party options include SANOXY and GJX products in the listings. Treat brand names, model numbers and photographs as starting points, not proof of authenticity. Wording such as “for Microsoft” usually describes compatibility and does not establish that Microsoft manufactured the receiver.

Do not confuse this product with an Xbox 360 wireless network adapter, which provides internet connectivity for the console. An Xbox One wireless receiver is also a different product and will not pair with Xbox 360 controllers. Instrument-specific dongles, especially Guitar Hero Live receivers, should be checked against the exact instrument rather than treated as replacements for a standard controller receiver.

Compare listing prices alongside shipping charges, applicable taxes and the stated condition. New third-party stock and used original Microsoft receivers are different buying choices; neither a higher asking price nor a sealed package guarantees easier setup. The current matching listings span $18.99–$41.99. These are asking prices, not confirmed sale prices, and the cheapest listing may not have the same condition or included items as another offer.

For a used Xbox 360 wireless controller receiver, look for clear photographs of the USB plug, cable, enclosure, pairing button and identification label. Prefer descriptions that say the receiver was detected by a PC and successfully paired with a controller. A power light alone does not demonstrate that the wireless connection or USB communication works.

Confirm that the receiver itself is included. Some titles describe controller packages or show accessories that are not part of the sale. Check the individual listing's return terms before buying, especially when Windows compatibility is unclear. If choosing refurbished or open-box stock, read the condition explanation rather than assuming it means either factory-new or ordinary used equipment.

The original receiver was designed for older Windows systems. Receivers are also used on Windows 10 and Windows 11, but recognition and driver setup can vary with the hardware and Windows installation. Do not assume every third-party product works automatically just because its title says “for Windows.” Look for instructions covering your operating system and a clear description of the exact receiver supplied.

Start by plugging the receiver directly into a working USB port and checking Windows Update. If it appears as an unknown device, open Device Manager, locate it and choose Update driver. A compatible installed Xbox 360 receiver driver may require manual selection. Only select a driver appropriate to the hardware; avoid unsigned downloads, forced incompatible drivers and instructions that disable Windows security protections.

After Windows recognizes the receiver, use the pairing buttons on the receiver and controller. The original Microsoft receiver supports up to four wireless controllers, with an advertised range of up to 30 feet; walls and interference can reduce that range. Verify third-party capacity separately. For a USB-C-only computer, check whether a data-capable USB-A-to-USB-C adapter is needed.
